New Visions/New Voices
In 2017, The Drama League launched a new educational program for New York high school students. New Visions/New Voices (NV/NV), a rigorous theatre training program designed to supplement theatre education in schools. NV/NV is offered at no cost to the student. NV/NV takes place after school at the Drama League Theater Center in Tribeca.
NV/NV introduces students with an interest in the professional theatre industry to the myriad of roles within the sector, giving them the opportunity to make an informed choice before committing to a career path.
NV/NV strives to give the student the power and ability to critically analyze and respond to multiple perspectives. Through the understanding of the power of perspective, one can influence their community and the world at large.
Across ten weeks, students will be in conversation with theatre professionals, learning directorial techniques and exercises to help manifest their visions, engage in conversation about strengthening their personal point of views, and attend shows across several practices (visual art, theatre, film, etc.). This broadens and refine their own artistic perspectives and aesthetics, and explores the potential of theatre as a future career.
During the final two weeks of the program, students will begin rehearsing scenes from a play with professional actors under the guidance of a Master Directing Teacher. A workshop presentation of the directorial work of the student body will be presented on the last day of class.
- Meet and Speak with professional directors
- Visit art galleries, off-broadway, Broadway, etc.
- Work on scenes with professional actors
- Learn various directorial techniques/exercises
