Hello! Thank you for your interest in The Drama League Directing Residencies. Part of an umbrella of programs collectively known as "The Directors Project," these Residencies are designed for stage directors leading processes to develop new plays, musicals, and performance pieces for future production. These Residencies vary in both area of specialization and in intended participants:

These are three separate Residency programs, and we encourage you to read about them in depth  at the links below before beginning your application:

*The Residencies are open to all applicants EXCEPT the Beatrice Terry Residency, named after the female writer-director who pioneered her own approach to theatrical creation, as a writer and director of her own work in a cis male-dominated field. As such, this residency is only open to womxn, which includes cisgender, transwomen and feminine-identifying genderqueer and non-binary individuals. We ask that you interrogate and respect the goals of this residency and only apply if you have experienced this specific kind of gender-based adversity.

Applicants must have directed at least four non-collegiate productions, and cannot be enrolled in a university B.A, B.F.A., M.F.A., or M.A. program in the fellowship year. Applicants are NOT required to have a university degree, but should have commensurate professional experience. Applicants must make themselves available for program components during the program period. This means that applicants cannot participate in other developmental fellowships during this time window. Applicants who have taken directing commitments during the program period may, due to lack of available time, have to forego one or more elements of the program, at the discretion of the staff.

All Fellowships now use a universal application. There is no need to complete multiple applications for the different Fellowships. If you are applying for a Residency, however, that will require filling out the Residency Application, which you can find at http://www.dramaleague.org.
